She creates photographs filled with an intense raw softness; draws inspiration from the dream catcher universe by Wendy Bevan and believes that photography is a way to create a mystical universe and tell stories. Danish photographer Olivia Folich creates more than photographs, she creates artworks.
Born on the 7th of September 1984 she currently lives in Norrebro, Copenhagen and is unlike your ordinary photographer who admits that they have been interested in photography ‘since I can remember.’ After high school Olivia travelled to Switzerland to become an actress in the film Nachbeben. Once there, the photographer on the set strangely captivated her and she began to turn her attention away from acting and more on photography. Her interest quickly got more intense and serious before later moving to New York to complete a few short courses to learn the technical stuff. Frolich then moved back to Denmark where she attended the Danish School of Photography.
Frolich works’ main focus is on fashion photography, and although she studied artistic and commercial photography she later discovered fashion photography is where she found the greatest thrill. She has since worked as an assistant for some of fashions greatest including Helena Christensen on a Spanish Vogue photo shoot and David Shery for Dazed and Confused. She manages to capture each photograph in its raw environment portraying a unique and unmistakable innocence that hold so much emotion. Olivia’s universe “inspires people and moves them in some kind of way, creates stories and makes beautiful pictures of women creating special universes.”
In the future Frolich would love to photograph Anja Rubik, Kate Winslet and Kate Blanchett as she thinks they’re all interesting, beautiful people while she wishes she had the chance to photograph her grandmother some more. Her Scandinavian culture and heritage is evident in her style of images. The dream-like softness of each photograph draws you away from reality and captivates you in its intensity of light, expressions and emotion. Olivia Frolich is one serious up and coming fashion photographer that never fails to amaze. She takes you to a place like no other as you dream away in the atmosphere of the unknown.
