Nothing is new here- leather is hot! And this season it is heating up even more as it breaks away from the traditional tattoo loving hardcore bikie-gang leather to take on a more feminine and delicate role transforming into a fabric for all seasons. Lately, the designers are turning their attention away from the ubiquitous jacket piece and exploring all new silhouettes, styles and colours.
We all know leather lasts forever and is one lust worthy look definitely worth investing in as a wide spread wardrobe staple. First spotted on the international runways of 3.1 Philip Lim, Karl Lagerfeld and Celine, more recently, the all wear leather trend dominated the Australian SS 10/11 runways. Flannel, Camilla and Marc and Kate Sylvester all demonstrated this fabric in new and beautiful ways, working it into pieces of the softest brown and cream leathers. Pencil skirts, high waisted shorts, cropped tops and even dresses offered the perfect contrast to the material’s inherent toughness.
Taking a step back from the predicted leather jacket, which has been a major staple trend for the last few seasons, the experimentation of these new leather pieces suddenly take centre stage on our must-have lists. Toughen up a delicate top with leather shorts or pair a leather top with your favourite bikie jeans and boots to truly get into the spirit of grunge. These are some pieces that can transition through all seasons.
When choosing what looks to add to your wardrobe it’s best to follow the professionals and stick to a monochromatic palette and muted tones.
