Meet the Designer: Discrete
We sit down with 20yr old kiwi designer Scott Kennedy to get to know the face behind the up and coming label- Discrete. Already established as one of the fastest growing labels in New Zealand, Discrete is slowly taking over our stores here too in Australia, currently being stocked at Black Anchor Collective in Brisbane and soon to be many more. We ask Scott to finish the sentences to tell us a bit about Discrete and how he came to owning his own label.
I started Discrete because…
I found it hard to find cool clothes that I could actually afford so I decided to try making my own. My Aunty spent some time sewing in factories in America on her OE so she was a big help. At first I just made for myself but soon I was making for friends and friends of friends. I was really inspired though to start putting more time and effort into what was just a hobby after a retail store worker complimented my shirt and asked where I had bought it- and yeah…things kind of just grew from there I guess!
The best parts of my job are….
Always meeting new people- from retail store owners to fabric dye factory workers and that no two days are ever the same, every day is different and offers new challenges. Also, the buzz of seeing something I’ve designed being worn by a complete stranger is something that still hasn’t worn off.
One thing I couldn’t live without is…
My MacBook as well as my iPhone because they are essential parts of the label and keep me entertained. I wasn’t paid by Apple to say that…wish I was.
In the next month we will be…
Releasing our 2012 winter collection into stores and have our new website up and running- discreteclothing.co.nz

Embrace The Cut-Outs Trend!
If you’re not feeling confident about cut-outs, don’t write it off just yet! It’s a hot fashion statement that gives an outfit that extra bit of flare. Don’t miss out on all the fun – simply be strategic!
- Always choose a piece that shows off your best features
- For those of you who prefer not to play peek-a-boo; opt for pieces with built in sheer linings
- If you need that extra bit of confidence; block the cut-out all together by wearing a contrast coloured or patterned bodysuit underneath
Our favourite cut-outs this season is from Shakuhachi’s stunning contrast line which also incorporates text book colour blocking…SO HOT!

You look absolutely stunning Jodi!“I just wanted to say the biggest thank you for everything! Firstly for being styled by Jessie and Sayaka and given such amazing clothes from Thread People. Everything fits perfectly and I feel like the clothes have been matched to suit my own style. Secondly to Rachel who spent hours on me! Thank you for my new hair-style! I love it. Curly hair is so hit and miss, but the style Rachel gave me is great. And on top of the hair, I was given a new face with some pretty amazing makeup. The eye makeup and tips to go with it were so helpful. I felt pretty special having such good treatment and being spoilt all day”

Do’s and Dont’s for Wearing Animal Print
When worn correctly, animal print can add style, glamour and a bit of fun to your outfit. Here are 3 rules to nail this look:
1. Don’t mix animal prints. There’s a whole zoo worth of animal prints out in the market – just stick to one per outfit!
2. Build your outfit with the animal print piece as the focal point
3. Don’t be afraid of animal prints in modern colours. Just be sure to keep the rest of your outfit simple and minimalistic.
4. If you’re still not feeling confident about this trend, start by rocking a small accessory piece and see how you go!
Make a Statement With Stolen Girlfriends Club & Ellery
